• Groups and Fan Pages

Facebook has several methods of being able to build up an awareness of who you are and what you stand for. The first area is the Fan Page. You will want to create a Fan Page to have your friends gain further knowledge of who you are and what you are interested in.

Since your profile page is designed to introduce you personally, the Fan Page is an extension of who you are and what in particular you have specific interests in.

I have several Fan Pages, one for each of the books I have published. I also have Fan Pages for specific areas of interests I have such as encouraging others to write and get published.

The challenge with a Fan Page and a Business Page is you have to rely on others to Like your page. And unfortunately, less than 10% of your friends will go through the effort of clicking on the “Like” button.

On the other hand, the Group Page allows you to build a group by you deciding who you’d like to add to your group. They are allowed to opt out of the group, but you’ll be able to build your group much faster than you can build the Likes on your Fan Page.

Also on the Group Page you are able to add Events, Pictures about events and what relates to the group, so it makes it much more customizable.

To my surprise when I logged into Facebook this week I found a notice on my group page

This group is scheduled to be archived

Over the next few months, Facebook will be archiving all groups created using the old groups format. When this group is archived, its wall posts, photos and discussion threads will move to theĀ new groups format, but group members will need to be re-added.

Really? So no one can keep their group members! How ridiculous is that? I don’t know about you, but I worked hard to get 300 followers on one group and 2,200 on another group. It really makes me mad that I have to start from scratch. Its difficult enough to do it the first time then to have to do it a second time is a major frustration!

But do they give us any choice? Nooooooooo!

Okay! I’ll get to it, like I have nothing else to do, but I’ll get it done! I’ll just skip another hour or two of sleep!

Facebook . . . you gotta love ’em, you’re gonna hate ’em!

It took me more than an hour to find out how to start a new group now. So to start a new group, all you have to do is go to this link:
